| When the City of Ankeny decided to construct this facility, they went about hiring their design and construction team somewhat unconventionally. They decided to lease the facility back from a developer, who would be chosen based upon the design, contractor, and price presented in their development proposal. Eight teams proposed, ours was selected. This project consisted of three buildings totaling 67,000 square feet to house the City of Ankeny’s street repair, storage, and maintenance departments. The first building was a 29,000 square foot structure including office and meeting areas as well as large spaces to repair and maintain all of the City’s vehicles and service equipment. Installing very large, heavy duty hydraulic service lifts and a five ton bridge crane that runs the entire span of this building were just a couple of the challenges that we successfully met on this project. The second building was a fairly simple building of 28,000 square feet that houses all of the City’s vehicles and equipment when not in use. The third building was a 10,000 square foot structure that holds all of the material to treat the roads in inclement weather along with a brine-mixing room and brine holding area.
